Cookie Policy

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on vpsolution.com.ng. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do with personal data generally.

The VP Solution mobile app does not use cookies for tracking. The app has no analytics software in it and no advertising identifier. The one identifier it does hold is a random number used to keep your basket attached to your phone, and it is described in section 2 of the Privacy Policy. If you are reading this because of the app, that section is the one you want.

The short version. We set the cookies a shop needs to work, and a small set of our own analytics cookies that only run if you agree. We currently run no advertising or analytics software from Google, Meta or TikTok, so none of their cookies are on this site.

1. What a cookie is

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep. When you come back, the browser sends it again, which is how a site remembers your basket or that you are signed in.

We also use two related things that are not technically cookies but do a similar job, and are covered by this policy for that reason:

• Local storage a larger, longer-lived store in your browser. We use it for your dark or light mode choice, for a wishlist kept while you are signed out, and for the analytics visitor id described in section 3.
• Session storage the same idea, but emptied when you close the tab.

First-party cookies are set by vpsolution.com.ng. Third-party cookies are set by somebody else when their code runs on our pages. At the time of writing we run no third-party code that sets cookies.

2. Your choice

Necessary cookies run without asking, because the site cannot work without them. They keep you signed in, hold your basket, protect forms against abuse, and remember the cookie choice itself. They do not follow you to other websites and they are not used for advertising.

Everything else waits for your answer. When you first arrive a banner asks, and until you answer, nothing in the optional categories runs: no visitor id, no session id, no analytics record. This is enforced in two places, once on our server and once in the page itself, so refusing is not merely a setting we agree to respect.

The banner offers two buttons, side by side, the same size and weight:

• Essential only nothing optional runs. You can shop normally.
• Accept all grants both categories below.

We do not offer per-category toggles today. It is one choice covering both, which is why the two categories are described together here rather than as separate switches.

How long your answer lasts. Your choice is remembered for 30 days, in a cookie called vp_consent. After that the banner asks again.

Changing your mind before then. Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page. It clears your answer and asks again straight away, so withdrawing is one click, exactly like giving it. Clearing the cookies for vpsolution.com.ng in your browser does the same thing.

Refusing does not affect your shopping. You can browse, order, pay and track a delivery with every optional cookie switched off. No price changes and no feature is withheld.

Your browser can also block or delete cookies, in its settings. Blocking the necessary ones will break the basket and sign-in, which is a limitation of how the web works rather than a choice we made.

3. The cookies we use

3.1 Necessary – always on

• vp_consent (VP Solution, 30 days) remembers which cookie categories you agreed to, so you are not asked on every page
• woocommerce_cart_hash (VP Solution, session) tells the site your basket changed
• woocommerce_items_in_cart (VP Solution, session) keeps the basket count correct
• wp_woocommerce_session_* (VP Solution, 2 days) holds your basket contents
• wordpress_logged_in_* (VP Solution, session, or 14 days if you chose to be remembered) keeps you signed in. Only set if you have an account and sign in.
• wordpress_sec_* (VP Solution, as above) protects the signed-in session
• wordpress_test_cookie (VP Solution, session) checks your browser accepts cookies at all, at sign-in
• wp-settings-* (VP Solution, 1 year) remembers display preferences

In local storage, and never sent to us:

• vp-theme your dark or light mode choice
• vp-wishlist items you hearted while signed out. Stays on your device. Signing in saves your wishlist to your account instead.

3.2 Analytics – only if you accept

Ours, first-party, and not shared with anybody. Nothing here runs until you accept.

• vp_vid (VP Solution, 400 days) a random number identifying this browser, so repeat visits can be counted as one visitor rather than several. Not linked to your name.
• vp_sid (VP Solution, until you close the browser) a random number identifying one visit, so we can see how a single session moved through the shop
• vp_touch (VP Solution, 30 days) remembers which campaign or website sent you to us, so we can tell which advertising worked
• vp_vid, vp_first, vp_last (VP Solution, local storage, until you clear it) copies of the visitor id and of where you first and most recently arrived from
• vp_sid (VP Solution, session storage, the tab) session storage copy of the above

What we record with them. Which pages and products were viewed, what went into a basket, and when a checkout was started, against the random visitor id above. Purchases are recorded on our server from the order itself rather than from your browser. Retention is in section 6.

3.3 Arriving from an advert or a referral link

These two are set when you arrive on a link that carries a code, and only if you have accepted. They are listed separately because they behave differently from the rest: they are written once, on arrival, rather than on every page.

• hid_vp_clickids (VP Solution, 30 days) holds the click identifier an ad platform added to the link you followed (gclid, fbclid, ttclid and similar), so a sale can be matched to the advert that led to it
• hid_vp_ref (VP Solution, 30 days) remembers the affiliate who referred you, so their commission is credited

Both are first-party, both hold a code rather than anything about you, and neither is sent anywhere while our advertising integrations are switched off. If you never arrive on such a link they are never set.

3.4 Third-party cookies

None. See section 5.

4. What we do not do

We do not sell or trade any of this. There is no arrangement under which money or value moves in exchange for your browsing.

We do not track you across other websites. Every cookie in section 3 is set by this site and readable only by this site.

We do not profile you to decide what you pay. Nothing above changes a price, an offer or what you are allowed to buy.

5. Third parties: what is running today

Today, nothing. No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no TikTok Pixel, no advertising tags of any kind. The software to run them is built into this site but is switched off and configured with no account, so none of it loads and none of their cookies are set.

We say this rather than listing cookies we do not set, because a policy that describes more tracking than a site performs is as inaccurate as one that describes less.

If that changes, this page changes first. Should we start measuring our advertising, we will update this page to name each platform, its cookies and their lifetimes, and the choice will run through the same banner: nothing loads for a visitor who has not accepted.

What it would involve, so it is not a surprise. Measuring an advert means telling the platform that a purchase happened. That record would carry the amount and the products, your email address, phone number and name in scrambled (SHA-256 hashed) form – one-way, so they cannot read them, only match them against a value they already hold – and, unavoidably for this kind of measurement, your IP address and browser user agent, which are not scrambled. It would happen only with your consent, only on the website, and never from the mobile app.

Paystack is the one third party you will meet, and only at the moment you pay. Payment happens on Paystack’s own page. Any cookie they set is theirs, on their page, under their policy at paystack.com/privacy. They are not present on ours.

6. How long the data behind them is kept

The cookie lifetimes in section 3 are how long the file stays in your browser. What we keep on our side is separate:

• Individual visit records 180 days, then permanently deleted
• Anonymous daily totals kept for reporting. These cannot be traced back to any person.

You can ask us for a copy of what is held against your visitor identifier, or ask us to delete it, using the contact details below. WordPress’s standard data export and erase tools cover these records, so a request reaches them rather than stopping at your account.

7. Changes

We update this policy when the cookies we use change. The date at the top is when it last changed.
